2012 Best of Wine Tourism Awards luncheon

The awards ceremony for the 2012 Best of Wine Tourism was held at the picturesque La Motte Wine Estate yesterday.  All the category winners collected on the lawns at the Historical Cellar for welcoming drinks and were entertained by our spirited Soetstemme choir.  I noticed one of the guests unreservedly joining the choir for one of their songs, and wondered why I had not thought of that!  The event was hosted by André Morgenthal of Wines of South Africa (WOSA) and the Mayor of the Winelands, Alderman Cornelius de Bruyn, handed out the awards. The highlight of the proceedings was Mark Solms receiving the winner’s “trophy” for Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences on behalf of Solms-Delta.  As always, he was well-turned out, in his second favourite T-shirt, “Keep Calm and Carry on”, and represented Solms-Delta with pride.

Our win was due to the “out of the ordinary” experience a visitor has at Solms-Delta; from the remarkable museum and archaeological dig, to the personal touch in the way we conduct wine tastings,  our fascinating tours, led so ably by Johan O’ Rayn and our unique interactive Cape music presentations.  Not only do the guests experience something entirely different, but they feel the passion of the people at Solms-Delta.
