5 Benefits of Grape Seed Oil

Grape seed oil is just what it sounds like – it is the oil extracted from seeds of grapes. The extraction process for these oils is elaborate and complex.

Just ask Allesverloren’s winemaker Danie Malan. This Swartland farmer has been producing some of South Africa’s most iconic red wines over the years. Danie, who believes in a more natural approach to farming and ‘nothing goes to waste’, solved the problem with the tons of grape seeds having to be expensively discarded each year.

Visitors to the farm can now purchase the oil directly from the Allesverloren Tasting Room and other specialty stores for only R45 (250ml).

While you may or may not use it in the kitchen, grape seed oil actually has plenty of other uses. Here are just a few of the things it’s good for:

Moisturising and Conditioning

Like olive oil and coconut oil, grape seed oil is an effective natural hair moisturizer and conditioner. However, grape seed oil surpasses its counterparts in its ability to address problems such as weakened hair, hair loss, and dandruff.

Treat Acne

Grape seed oil contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, both of which are great for stopping acne. The oil also contains linoleic acid, which is great for promoting skin health. A simple remedy for these skin conditions is to apply Grape Seed Oil onto the affected skin 2-3 times daily. Regular oral intake of Grape Seed Extract supplements can also add to the benefits.

Tighten Skin and fights aging

Grape seed oil has astringent qualities that help tighten skin and close up the pores, thus helping you avoid clogging that leads to pimples. Oily skin can especially benefit from this. Fine lines and wrinkles can be alleviated with a daily dose of grape seed oil on the skin. The elasticity of the skin can be improved, thus making the lines of an aging face less pronounced.

Relieve Dark Circles under Eyes

Dark circles are a problem for many adults, and sometimes children have the issue as well. Most products that claim to help actually have harsh chemicals. Grapeseed oil, applied daily for a few weeks, can relieve the dark circles naturally.

It good for the heart

Grape seed oil helps lower blood pressure levels as well as overall heart rate. The proanthocyanidin content of grape seeds also helps lower overall cholesterol levels.
