Businesses, residents prepare for smoking ban in New Orleans

Two weeks from now, a smoking ban will take effect in bars and other public areas across the Crescent City.

Before then, city officials are trying to get people and businesses ready for the big change. Others, seem to be ahead of the game.

“We’re a small bar, so the smokiness in the air kept certain people away,” Matthew Hayes of the 700 Club said. “We have more people who are actually coming to drink with us now.”

The 700 Club, at Burgundy and St. Peter streets, voluntarily put the smoking ban in place on Ash Wednesday. Hayes said there have been no issues.
