Don’t tell the kids, but Birmingham supermarkets have given a whole new meaning to Donner kebabs – by offering diced reindeer for Christmas.

Santa’s little helpers are being offered as a Yuletide promotion by budget supermarket Lidl. And cubed Comet and Cupid will only set punters back £7.99.

For those who don’t fancy Blitzen in bite-sized chunks, the German-owned business, which has branches in Acocks Green, Bordesley and Fox Hollies, has placed deluxe reindeer steaks on shelves in a bid to attract more middle-class customers.

The supermarket seasonal sales pitch has been blasted by animal rights groups. One accused Lidl of “making a mockery of the Christmas spirit”.
