Hot on the heels of its last achievement, the De Krans Cape Vintage Reserve 2014 will be adding another accolade to its list of awards for 2017, securing a Double Gold at the 2017 Veritas Awards.  De Krans also took home two Gold medals for its Cape Tawny Limited Release NV and Cape Vintage Reserve 2015, respectively. The prestigious awards ceremony, which took place on Friday, 6 October in Cape Town, was attended by key role players from both the wine and media industries.

The award-winning Cape Vintage Reserve 2014 was one of 1 638 entries received for this year’s competition. A total of 71 Double Gold and 193 Gold medals were awarded. The Veritas Awards is one of South Africa’s longest running and most prestigious wine competitions, which is judged by some of the country’s top wine judges and critics, with international wine judges included on some of the panels.

2017 has without a doubt been a stellar year for this prize-winning port-style wines. In September, the Cape Vintage Reserve Port 2014 was awarded Gold at the 2017 Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards. Earlier this year the same port was named as one of SA’s Top 100 wines, as well as a Double Platinum recipient at the 2017 National Wine Challenge. This wine was also crowned as the Campion Port-style wine in South Africa at the 2014 SA Young Wine Show. Winemaker, Louis van der Riet describes this flagship port-style wine, which is dark in colour with a plum red rim, as displaying a very aromatic nose of ripe red berries and cherries, violets and dark chocolate. This is a big wine, full of ripe dark fruit notes, plums, mulberries and black currents. It is well-rounded with smooth dark chocolate undertones and firm tannins, resulting in a wine that would mature well for 30 years, or more. It is available directly from the cellar or select outlets nationwide at approximately R330 per bottle.
