Festive Season Fun at Bouchard Finlayson

During the upcoming festive season, Bouchard Finlayson will once again welcome visitors for wine tasting at the cellar in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, outside Hermanus. Wine tasting is offered daily during business hours except for Sundays, Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day (when the winery will be closed). A tasting of three wines cost R20 per person; and a tasting of six wines cost R40 per person. By prior arrangement cellar tours are available and larger groups may be accommodated with advance notice too.

A full range of award-winning wines is available to taste: white blend Blanc de Mer 2016; Sauvignon Blanc 2017; Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2016; Sans Barrique Chardonnay 2016; Kaaimansgat/Crocodile’s Lair Chardonnay 2015; Missionvale Chardonnay 2015 and Bouchard Finlayson’s famed red blend, the Hannibal 2015.

Also available for tasting is the estate flagship wine, Galpin Peak Pinot Noir 2015, which has just been awarded 5-stars from the Platter’s by Diners Club South African Wine Guide. It was one of only four Pinot noirs to receive the coveted 5-star rating for 2018. Earlier this year the same vintage received international recognition when it won a gold medal and a regional trophy in the 2017 International Wine Challenge in the UK.

Delicious on their own, Bouchard Finlayson’s wines are also made to be enjoyed with food. Scrumptious Deli Platters can be pre-ordered to be enjoyed with the wine tasting, served on the terrace overlooking the vineyards, or in the cellar. The generous platters are served on wooden boards made from old wine barrels, laden with a selection of Bresaola charcuterie, mild Gruberg cheese, Colby cheese, ciabatta, estate olive oil, olives, olive tapenade and mixed nuts. (Cost R210, serving 2 people)

Visitors to the estate are also invited to explore the natural beauty of the farm. In the interest of biodiversity and as a World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Conservation Champion, Bouchard Finlayson protects no less than 100 hectares of the 125 hectare estate where three self-guided trails are available through the fynbos landscape. The trails may be used free of charge, after hikers have collected a map and signed indemnity forms at the cellar door.
