Wine writer Cathy Huyghe at Forbes tries to ground the wide-ranging conversation by focusing attention on one particular category of the wine industry, namely sparkling wine, in her latest column.

Sparkling wine represents a useful and illustrative pivot point for at least three streams of influence: the current momentum of sparkling wine production within the UK itself, the historical trajectory and consumption of Champagne from France, and the increasing popularity of Prosecco from Italy. Those are the three segments highlighted below but, to be sure, the commentary and opinions today are most certainly liable to change and evolve as more implications of the Brexit vote become clear.

“Everything has changed but nothing has changed,” said Andrew Weeber of Gusbourne winery in Appledore, Kent.
