Creation Wines. What`s in a name?

Long, very long ago (in fact 450 000 000 years!), Mother Nature laid the first foundations for what was to become one of the most exciting wine estates in the South African Winelands.

Welcome to Creation Wines, situated high up on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge of the cool-climate Walker Bay Wine Region near the seaside town of Hermanus. Here the estate’s virus-free vineyards thrive in 450-million-year-old clay loam soils. Climbing the steep hills of Babylonstoren Mountain they soar to an altitude of 300 m above sea level where they bask in generous sunlight and dance to the rhythm of the refreshing breezes blowing in from the nearby Atlantic.

In fact, Creation’s vineyards are within 9 km of Walker Bay and according to co-owner Jean-Claude Martin (who is also the estate’s viticulturist and winemaker) these cool maritime conditions are fundamental to the elegance of their premium wines, notably the Creation Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. An ever-growing list of prestigious achievementsboth local and international, testifies to the distinctive quality of these terroir-driven wines which are now sought-after in countries worldwide.

Success however, didn’t come easy, as is told by Carolyn Martin (Creation co-owner and marketing director):

When we settled on the farm in 2002, the land had never been planted to vines before and there was no infrastructure. To establish a winery from scratch in a remote corner without cell phone reception or facilities like fresh running water was hard work, to say the least.
