During the winter months of May, June and July, Idiom Wines will be participating in local Cape Town restaurant Societi Bistro’s ‘Tour Through Italy’. The tour, which sees local producers of Italian varietal wines participate, starts on the 15th May and runs for ten weeks, finishing on the 23rd July. Each week will see a culinary focus on a different Italian region with a special menu, set by Executive Chef Stéfan Marais, and paired with the locally produced Italian wines. Idiom Wines will have three of their wines paired throughout the Tour.
In week four (5th – 11th June) of the Tour the restaurant’s focus turns to the Italian region of Campania, the home of pizza, Buffalo Mozzarella and Limoncello. The recently released Idiom Bianco di Stellenbosch, produced from 100% Pinot Grigio, will be the wine selection throughout the week as it gets paired with the regionally themed menu of a Mozzarella in Carrozza starter (deep fried mozzarella sandwich with dressed rocket), a Braciola di Maiale Pizzaiola main (pork chop with Pizzaiola sauce) and a Chocolate & Almond Gelato dessert.
The following week (12th – 18th June) sees the Tour move on from the sunny region of Campania, over the mountains and up the coast as the attention shifts to the regions of Molise, Abruzzo and Marche, famed for producing some of the world’s best hams and salami’s and Italy’s only Saffron producing region. The Idiom Sangiovese, a favorite of those who frequent Societi Bistro, takes centre stage for the duration of the week as the restaurant produces a fantastic regional menu consisting of a Spaghetti all’Aglio Olio e Peperoncino starter (spaghetti with garlic, olive oil and chilli), a Cape Fish with Inzimino and Salse Verde main and a Salame di Fichi Gelato dessert (fig, almond and walnut ‘salami’ crumbled into gelato).
