Indian Winery, Grover Zampa Vineyards, Wins Winery of the Year

Grover Zampa Vineyards, the longest standing winery in India, has recently been named Winery of the Year at the Asian Wine Review 2018, the world’s most trusted guide to Asian wine production which is held in Hong Kong. The panel also rated the Grover Art Collection Rosé 2017 vintage the best Rosé, describing it as a “great example of the potential of a Rosé produced in Asia.” At another recent awards ceremony, the SAKURA Japan Women’s Wine Awards 2018, the Rosé also picked up a gold medal, proving the true quality of this superlative wine.

Of the Winery of the Year award the panel at Asian Wine Review stated “this year’s Winery of the Year tells a wonderful story of true ambition and belief that great wines can be produced in India. With over two decades of winemaking experience and continuous improvements in wine quality, Grover Zampa has every reason to stand proudly in accepting this prestigious accolade.” These were two among many Grover Zampa Vineyards’ medals won for several vintages at both the Asian Wine Review 2018 and the recent prestigious SAKURA’ Japan Women’s Wine Awards 2018.

Asian Wine Review, the brainchild of renowned winemaker Eddie McDougall and his team, has been instrumental, since its inception, in influencing consumer’s wine selection while also serving as a platform for wine producers to achieve professional feedback. In its 3rd edition, with participation from several countries such as China, Indonesia, Japan and Thailand, amongst others, the winners were selected through a rigorous process of blind tasting. The judgement was undertaken by a panel comprising of Asia’s notable wine experts, who perused over 200 wines from leading Asian wineries. Emerging victorious, apart from the title of AWR Winery of the year, Grover Zampa Vineyards secured 6 awards; Art Collection Rosé 2017 – Shiraz being granted Best Rosé, gold medals for both the Vijay Amritraj Reserve Collection Red 2015 – Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz Viognier and Zampa Soirée Brut, 2015 – Chenin Blanc, one silver for Art Collection Sauvignon Blanc 2017 – Sauvignon Blanc and two bronze for La Réserve Blanc 2016 – Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Vijay Amritraj Reserve Collection White 2016 – Viognier.

SAKURA’ Japan Women’s Wine Awards is a unique international wine competition held in Japan, where female professionals from the wine industry unite to judge wines. In its 4th edition, the assessment was undertaken by 510 veterans in a blind tasting format that was hosted at Westin, Tokyo in late January. Adding a feather to India’s cap, Grover Zampa vineyards won 4 medals at the distinguished awards, with 2 gold (Grover Shiraz Rosé, 2017; Zampa Soirée Brut 2015) and two silver (La Reserve Red 2015; Vijay Amritraj Red 2015).
