Kraken Black Spiced Rum hits South African shores

Many years ago, in the Caribbean Islands, a ship carrying a large quantity of black spiced rum mysteriously disappeared. Legend has it that the ship was attacked by the Kraken, a sea monster known for its deadly tentacles, razor sharp teeth, and insatiable appetite. The lost barrels of rum were renamed after the Kraken, to both honor and sooth his thirst.

Some of these lost barrels have hit South African shores in February and the news comes as a true blessing! To celebrate this monstrous occasion, Rolling Stone Magazine and The Kraken Black Spiced Rum threw the party of all parties at the Fire & Ice Hotel in the Mother City. Several popular South African musicians took the stage, including Nick Turner, Ratrod Cats, Th’ Damned Cows, The Dixie Pricks, Mean Black Mamba, Bango Brothers and Long Time Citizen.

VIP guests at the party all received keys to unlocked the Kraken Bar, stocked with custom, semi-squat bottles with distinctive “earlobe” handles, boosting old-style labels with a large octopus dragging a tiny galleon to the depths. The old-style bottle and superlative packaging certainly capture the ocean-dwelling spirit of rum!

In the glass, Kraken Black Spiced Rum is as opaque as the ink from its namesake. To the nose Kraken smells strongly of vanilla, with little to no alcohol at all. There’s a fine musky undertone and just a hint of spice.

The aroma is deceptively subdued compared to the explosion of flavours encountered on the taste. An undercurrent of cinnamon mixed with more prominent flavours of vanilla. It’s extremely smooth with a sweet, lingering finish.

This is not just a spiced rum, it’s an experience! This beast swallows up the competition. Neat or mixed, Kraken by far exceeds any other spiced rum on the market.

The Kraken Spiced Rum’s recommended retail price is R185 and is available at all leading alcohol distributors.
