La Motte Millennium – Best SA Red at Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Award

La Motte is delighted to announce that its acclaimed Bordeaux-style red wine, the 2015 La Motte Millennium was recognised as the Best of Show South African Red at the Spring Tasting of the Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Award.

Nearly 200 highly qualified international wine experts from 44 countries, comprising oenologists, wine-makers, professional wine traders, sommeliers and expert journalists made the selection from almost 6200 wines from more than 150 wine growing regions all over the word.

Scheduled for release in April, the 2015 La Motte Millennium is a classic red blend of Merlot (56%), Cabernet Franc (28%), Malbec (10%) and  Petit Verdot (6%). Grapes originate from Walker Bay, Villiersdorp, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch areas. “South Africa’s diversity in terroir – a compact system of closely situated but very different pockets – enables excellent blends of various areas and varieties”, says La Motte Cellarmaster Edmund Terblanche.

With its elegant style and versatile character, the 2015 La Motte Millennium is a trusted choice on the dinner table and an unbeatable choice for a glass on its own. The nose is intense with cherry and mulberry fruit, cinnamon and a hint of aniseed as well as some delicate oak-derived toffee and caramel flavours.

Already in 1988 the visionary late Dr. Anton Rupert registered the Millennium™ trademark and it was also this vintage of the Claret-style wine that first carried the name, La Motte Millennium™. Ever since, this elegant red wine has been synonymous with the culture and quality of  La Motte and it continues to do so.

La Motte’s 2016 Pierneef Sauvignon Blanc also received a gold medal at the 2017 Mundus Vini Spring Tasting.
