Leopard`s Leap and Open Book Announce Winnner of #FLASHFICTION Competition

The winner of the #FlashFiction #Twitterature writing competition hosted by Leopard’s Leap Wines and the Open Book Festival was announced at the opening ceremony of the festival, held at The Book Lounge in Cape Town on 5 September.

Verushka Louw, children’s bookseller extraordinaire was selected from close to 300 entries for her quick and quirky way with words on wine:

“Of course, I read non-fiction,” she said, taking a sip,

“there are so many facts on a wine label.”

The three judges were Leopard’s Leap CEO Hein Koegelenberg, talented radio host, author and songwriter, Carol Mashigo and acclaimed writer, editor, poet and critic Nick Mulgrew, who enjoyed the quirkiness and word play of Louw’s #Twitterature #FlashFiction story.

Hein Koegelenberg: “Leopard’s Leap’s is proud to be associated with the Open Book Festival. Our involvement is based on our passion for literature and the dynamic environment in which it lives. The #FlashFiction competition was an attempt at bringing together our love for wine and word and to make it relevant in a modern way. We were delighted with the quality of the entries, the creativity of the writers and how they managed to say so much with so little! Thank you to everyone who has supported the initiative and congratulations to Verushka Louw. We really enjoyed her witty take on Words and Wine!”

Verushka wins a cash prize of R5000, passes to the Open Book Festival and a R500 voucher to spend at The Book Lounge. Her #FlashFiction story will also be the back label copy of the 2016 Leopard’s Leap Merlot and she wins a supply of 12 cases to take her through the next year!”
