Linton Park Opens Its Doors With A Grand Bash

Members of the media and VIP guests turned out by the bus load to cheer the grand opening of Linton Park’s sleek new tasting venue and winery in February 2017. Based in Wellington, this grand party was hosted by Mr Malcolm Perkins, Chairman of the United Kingdom based Camellia Plc group that purchased Linton Park in 1995.

Prominently situated at the foot of the Groenberg Mountains, the new winery is both inviting and functional. The winemaking facilities are housed in a building that was originally constructed in 1921, and within the Cellar there are original cement tanks dating back to 1925. Camellia Plc also restored the neglected Cellar in 1995 with the property’s purchase.

Here are some of the reasons why we think Linton Park is a wine brand to watch and why you should certainly plan a visit to grand wine estate in Wellington.

Caring for the environment and its people

Mr Alan Winde, Western Cape Minister of Economic Opportunities, was the guest-of-honour at the opening celebrations. He praised the Linton Park team for its various socially responsible upliftment programmes, green and sustainable farming and cellar management that ensure that the environment and the employees are taken care of and respected.

The Vineyards

The vineyards at Linton Park enjoy some of the highest altitudes in the Cape Winelands. With a unique micro-climate, each of the 37 vineyard blocks are prepared and nurtured to yield the best quality grapes. A variety of soils are encountered with the predominant ones being Oakleaf and deep Tukulu through to fertile Clovelly.

The Wines

Visitors to the estate can taste a variety of fine wines at the stylish tasting centre. For me, the wines of Linton Park are a step above the rest when it comes to complexity and depth. From the Methode Cap Classiques to the Reserve Sauvignon Blanc and Cafe Cabernet, I loved every sip!

There are several more reasons to visit Linton Park. The age-old Cape Dutch Manor house, the beautiful gardens and outdoor areas. It’s a unique space that offers more than just a wine tasting and certainly worth the drive out.

The tasting centre at Linton Park is open on Mondays to Fridays from 09:00- 16:30 and on Saturdays between 09:00 and 13:00.
