L’Ormarins Blanc de Blancs awakes from four years of slumber

Just in time for the festive season, Anthonij Rupert Wyne releases the L’Ormarins Blanc de Blancs 2012, which completes an already stellar line up of superb Méthode Cap Classiques (MCC).

From the outset this maiden vintage radiates elegance and sophistication in its striking packaging, which is guaranteed to be eye catching and the centre of attention at any social gathering. Grapes were sourced from vineyards on the estate’s Altima property in the Elandskloof region, which is renowned for its high altitudes – perfect for producing exceptional Cap Classique made from 100% Chardonnay. Approximately 20% of the Blanc de Blancs is barrel-fermented, where after it undergoes a process of second fermentation in the bottle. Fermentation in the bottle takes a leisurely four years adding maximum complexity and creaminess before being disgorged. It is then aged for a further three months on the cork before being released into the market.

The lively fine mousse makes way for an MCC bursting with flavours of zesty lemons, intermingled with a hint of oyster shell. The flavour profile continues with aromas of sour dough bread yeastiness, limestone and the slightest hint of caramel. The palate delivers a myriad of fresh fruity flavours, which is perfectly balanced by its rich, rounded and toasty yeast finish.

With the weather warming up the L’Ormarins Blanc de Blancs is best enjoyed, chilled, on its own or paired fresh oysters, flash fried Prawns with orange and Pernod, a delicious Nectarine Frangipane Tart or even a classic Duck a L’Orange.

This limited release MCC is available directly from the Tasting Room at R220 per bottle.

The Blanc de Blancs joins two other statuesque MCCs in the range, the Brut NV and vintage Brut Rosé.
