What better way to kick-off your weekend than to purchase some local produce at a neighbourhood market? Families are invited to explore the new Parsnip neighbourhood marketplace at Windmeul Kelder in Paarl, packed with a wide selection of fresh, seasonal produce and local delicacies.
What looks like an old-fashion pantry, the Parsnip marketplace is the perfect place to find a range of high-quality and proudly Paarl produce, as well as a wide selection of handcrafted gifts at reasonable prices.
You can find a selction of olives, creamy cheeses, homemade jams, preserves and a variety of other products like gourmet charcuterie, prime cuts of meat, farm-raised poultry as well as traditional South African biltong and droëwors. In addition to this expect to find a selection of fudges, nougat, specialist coffees, marinades, drizzles and dips.
The Parskruip marketplace aims at promoting regional agriculture and gives an opportunity to producers to sell their local products directly to consumers. According to cellar master Danie Marais, Windmeul is committed to craftsmanship, not only with their wines, but also in the produce stocked in Parskuip.
“The art of creating something with passion and excellence is something that has almost become extinct in our society of instant gratification, but fortunately the appreciation of craftsmanship is slowly making a return. Consumers are increasingly looking for artisanal products that have been crafted with care. It is also very important for us to support local businesses, which focus on sustainability and most of our suppliers are located in close proximity to Windmeul,” mentions Marais.
The special kiddies’ play area makes it an ideal destination for families. On Saturdays, visitors can enjoy delicious breakfasts, pizzas and “roosterkoek” from the Konstreikombus in a relaxed, cosy and family-friendly environment.
The wine tasting area is operational at the same times and provides the perfect opportunity for visitors to taste Windmeul’s award-winning wines and expand their wine collection.
The Parskuip neighbourhood marketplace is open from Monday to Friday (08h00 – 17h00) and on Saturday from 09h00 to 15h00.
