Police raid at Kango Wines

THE head of an Oudtshoorn winery licensed to produce only wine has been arrested following a series of raids and the seizure of a kind of beer worth R10 million.
Johannes Brits, 43, general manager of Kango Wines and chief executive of the Kango Co-Op, appeared in the Oudtshoorn Magistrate’s Court soon after his arrest on Friday on charges of defeating the ends of justice and manufacturing or distributing a product contrary to liquor licence conditions.

Brits was arrested at Kango Wines’ headquarters and managerial offices after a warrant of arrest was obtained by police, said spokeswoman Bernadine Steyn.
