In one of her newer publications, the UK’s most distinguished wine critic Jancis Robinson sheds light on one of the more unique tastings she’s attended. Forty of the world’s best-known Rosés – ranging from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s newest offering, Chateau Miraval Rosé, to market heavyweight’s such as Chateau d’Esclan’s Garrus – had their wines pitted against each other in a blind tasting.

Remarkably, Jancis had been left disappointed by some of the older, more ambitious offerings and had instead discovered some great value picks, with SA’s Tamboerskloof Katharien Syrah Rose 2014 making the grade.

“I found some of the lower-acid wines among the most interesting, with a slight astringency adding the structure that was lacking. What I was looking for was character, and it was evident that some would make seriously interesting wines for the table.”
