Are SA wine marketers homophobic or simply asleep?  For while Cape Town may pose as the Gay and Wine Capital of SA, it takes an American vitamin water company called Glacéau to sponsor Love Sundays, a cocktail party that brought down the curtain on Gay Pride weekend at Societi BistroVan Loveren missed a great opportunity to launch their 2012 Sauvignon Blanc, which was only bottled last week.

Lovely luvvies @ Love Sunday

The first white of this year’s vintage, it was a little bottle shocked by some of the luvvies (above) but an irrepressible line of pear drops cut through the billowing pheromones and clouds of Aramis.  Made from the fruit of 16 year old vines which were planted under the hot Robertson sun while over in “new york city, an adventurer, gadabout, and humble genius named j. darius bikoff was feeling the double blow of raging thirst and low energy.  en route to a yoga class, bikoff gobbled a vitamin c wafer and chased it with a swig of water.  the electric combination of flavour and nourishment inspired bikoff to develop glacéau vitaminwater, a great tasting active lifestyle beverage that’s packed with nutrients, and has no artificial flavours or colours.”  The verdict?  Much better than Powerade, especially when pimped up with Roger Jorgensen’s eponymous gin.
