Sandy collateral

Debris from late tropical storm Sandy is still being washed up across the Atlantic in France. Here is a tourist curio from New York City that beached in Colmar, Alsace.

We stumbled across it after tasting the Kitterle Grand Cru at Schlumberger in the village of Guebwiller yesterday. Made from grapes grown on pink sandstone, this cuvee was the most petroly of the many we tasted. Also most impressive was the Saering Grand Cru, a real Hobbit of a wine that was as lively as Legolas after standing open for 17 days in the tasting room.

Riesling truly is the elf king of grapes, being fruity and floral at the same time. Quite remarkable.
