Fromagerie Kef (below) in Marnixstraat in the Jordaan is the kifste cheese shop in the whole of Amsterdam. Which is saying something in the land of Kaaskoppe.

But while the cheeses come mainly from France, the wine comes from Polkadraai and Wellington with Johan Reyneke amply represented. His Pinotage takes pride of place and there is also an Uplands Ruby Port. The organic and biodynamic profiles of these two producers clearly suits the image of the fromagerie. So no surprise then that Johan’s Reyneke Reserve Red 2009 won best sandal at the recent Nedbank Green Wine Awards.
