Anton Espost noted “Food|Wine|Design is like a wedding.  The guests have all the fun.”  And it was as a guest that I went to Summer Elegance on Saturday where I bumped into Cobus Joubert, where we were papped by Spit or Swallow (below).

Cobus was singing the praises of FWD – he sold out of his artisanal gin (160 bottles) and there was a run on his handmade Muisenberg surf boards for use on the Vaal River.   No wonder former strawberry farmer and diamond diver Roger Jorgensen has been at all the FWDs with his delicious distilates and one wonders when artisanal brandy makers will wake up. Distell were there and their R20 cocktails showed that whisky is not the only tipple for hipsters.

Meanwhile Luke Krone could not complain about bubbly sales at Summer Elegance which were double those of previous. As Charles Back said “wine tasting alone is not enough.  People want an experience.” Whether it be Food|Wine|Design or Summer Elegance.
