For today comes the bombshell rumour that WOSA CEO Su Birch (below, right) intends to resign on April Fool’s day. How appropriate, yet she’ll still be “at work” until the end of August, which has upset many insiders who would rather she left on April 2.

Su’s departure comes as no surprise after the disastrous handling of the WIETA/farm workers’ strike last year. The whole WOSA structure is in serious need of radical overhaul and the question of whether SA even needs a generic foreign wine marketing body in the age of bulk, needs to be discussed.
