Hedonism comes to the Helderberg via Haskell

The grandfather of SA Bordeaux blends, Giorgio Dalla Cia (whose Meerlust Rubicon put the SA interpretation of the traditional Cab/Merlot/Franc/Malbec/Petit Verdot recipe onto the hedonist radar screen to such an extent that Francis Ford Coppola now calls his own Californian icon, Rubicon) says the Helderberg is the St. Émilion of SA wine. So it was quite appropriate that Preston Haskell should pour the best of Bordeaux for his guests at his Helderberg winery on Saturday night.

This must have been the first Cape Town wine function where guests arrived early. I arrived 30 minutes before kick off and the Pétrus 1986 was almost plat while those who arrived on time had to make do with the dregs of La Mission Haut Brion 1967 which was a shame as it was the best red of the evening IMHO.
