It was Anthony Powell who noted “books do furnish a room” in his Dance to the Music of Time. He wasn’t joking as designer Michael Chandler is busy buying 36 running metres of books in pastel shades to decorate someone’s pied a cap. Myself, I find paintings more sympathetic and must say I was in total painting envy of Piet Viljoen after a morning in his New Church Gallery on saturday. If these are his public spaces, what must his private areas look like? So back to Tamboerskloof and a survey of the walls. The bedroom:
Top row left-right: Johann Louw, Luan Nel, Christo Coetzee (do I have a thing for Afrikaners?)
Bottom row left-right:Penny Siopis, Luan Nel, Gerard Sekota (no)
Opposite wall:
left – right: Themba Shibase, Wolf Kibel, Luan Nel
In the lounge, a gay trio of cows from Joachim Schonfeldt – Johnny Fairfield
Two lovely watercolours by Simon Stone who is painting in the Karoo as I type
and a precious view of our bedroom on Lemoenfontein by Luan Nel
