No Graça, No Braai

As Bob Marley might have sang and Jakes (below) did:

‘Cause – ’cause – ’cause I remember when a we used to sit
In the Strandloper at Langebaan,
Oba – obaserving the ‘ypocrites – yeah! –
Mingle with the good people we meet, yeah!
Good friends we have, oh, good friends we have lost
Along the way, yeah!
In this great future, you can’t forget your past;
So dry your tears, I seh. Yeah!

No, Graça, no braai;
No, Graça, no braai. Eh, yeah!
A little darlin’, don’t shed no tears:
No, Graça, no braai. Eh!

The occasion was the 30th birthday party for Graça at the Strandloper Restaurant at Langebaan today and the adventurous side of SA wine hackery enjoyed copious bottles of Graça along with a seafood braai wat vir niks geskrik het.  Perhaps Andre Morgenthal, hard man of WOSA under previous management, can find employment here after a couple of people skills courses.

R250 buys an eight course seafood extravaganza including kreef (although best dish was grilled stumpnose) and at R30 a pop, Graça – no corkage – is the perfect accompaniment. Slightly pettilant, the tartly fresh palate is an excellent match with Neptune’s bounty. Graça is as old as reggae and the funky new bottle sleeve should encourage a whole new generation of laid back folks to turn on to wine. It’s a lot healthier than the holy herb and equally uplifting.

The only seafood delicacy missing was whale and we didn’t miss that blubbermeister at all.
