The Taste is a new UK channel 4 TV cooking competition featuring food gods and goddesses Anthony Bourdain, Nigella Lawson and Ludo Lefebvre. Based on a US network ABC show of the same name which also includes celebrity chef Brian Malarkey, “the ten-part series will see contestants face rounds of cookery challenges, with the sole emphasis on taste: the panel will blind taste a single spoonful of the food before eliminating contenders” according to The Independent.

Which confirms just how out of fashion the sighted model used by MasterchefSA and the Platter wine guide is. Cooking shows are all the rage in SA and since local TV is so derivative, its a dead cert that The Taste will soon appear on local screens. Yet another humiliation for Diners Club who clearly backed the wrong horse when they snapped up Platter and all its problems earlier in the year. When will Diners owner Standard Bank realize they’be been sold a pup? Woof-woof!
