Chenin and Pinotage for Lovers

My favourite Simonsberg white at the Checkers Battle of die Berge terroir taste-off last year was Anne Cointreau’s Morgenhof 2011 Chenin Blanc, so its pleasing to see Susy Atkins recommend it to Telegraph readers today.

But what’s more surprising is that it Susy’s other two picks are Sherry and Port. Do people buy a special bottle for Valentine’s Day any more I wonder? I do hope so as I hear Samarie Smith tweeted

@neilpendock I had the Lemoenfontein Pinotage 2009 last night. What a sedutive wine! Definitely included for my Valentine issue nxt Sat!

She wrote it all up in Die Burger describing it as “orange chocolate, stewed plums and blackberries” and concluded “Wow!” As a Fundi for Tops at Spar, she is rarely wrong.

The wine is available from the Pendock Wine Gallery @ Taj for R45 a bottle. [email protected] can help you order.
