Desperately seeking Sharon

The plot thickens. A guest house in Camps Bay has received 12 damning reviews on TripAdvisor in the last 3 months with the most recent from two weeks ago “Rude unpleasant owner – dirty smelly Accomodation (sic).” Other complaints this year include

“Dirty, awful place to stay”

“Tired guesthouse badly run by a rather rude owner”

“terrible”

“Worst Service Ever at Booking Stage already!”

“stay there at your peril”

“Bitterly disappointed and wish to warn all about it”

“Worst experience in 23 years visiting Cape Town”

“A king size bed in a queen size room”

“Awful! Biggest disappointment on our Cape family trip”

“stay there for Christmas worse welcome by fat german lady”

“Unacceptable”

Which all seems pretty damning.

Until the arrival of Sharon who claims to have had “a whale of a time” last week? Sharon calls herself “a magazine editor” so hopefully she paid for her two night stay, as undisclosed freebees are the bane of SA tourism reportage.

What makes the whole affair so curious is that the owner of the guest house in question is a leading aggregater of tourism news. Although banned from many hotels, restaurants and establishments for unacceptable behaviour, he is a font of advice and criticism. Perhaps the editors of TripAdvisor can shed some light on the mystery.

Declaration: the owner of the guest house is also banned from the Pendock Wine Gallery @ Taj.
