RECM Rosé Results

Attie Louw’s journey from deepest Breedekloof to Cape Town yesterday to deliver wines for today’s RECM blind tasting was rewarded when his two Opstal wines were ranked in the top six. The tasting was blind or it would look like a set-up. All the wines tasted (below) will be available for a public tasting from 5-7pm this afternoon.

Alas for Attie, Rosé is such a competitive category that when you factor in price, the tops spots are all snarfed-up by the big brands. Half of the value wines hail from Distell (Two Oceans, Obikwa and Drostdy-Hof) while KWV is up there as are Van Loveren from Robertson and Landskroon from Paarl.

Two Oceans Shiraz Rosé 2013 Price R35.00 Value R59.78 Score 15.40
Obikwa Pinotage Rosé 2013 Price R30.00 Value R47.59 Score 14.90
KWV Classic Collection Shiraz Rosé 2013 Price R40.00 Value R56.77 Score 15.40
Landskroon Blanc de Noir Pinotage Off-dry 2013 Price R37.00 Value R49.56 Score 14.90
Drostdy-Hof Light Natural Sweet Rose Price R30.00 Value R37.89 Score 14.50

RECM BV WINE GUIDE_OUTLINES sticker

All of these six best value wines will receive 100 complimentary bottle stickers which are being printed by Coastal Labels as I type with rolls of 1000 stickers available for purchase at R200 a roll. The idea for the stickers comes from Dr. Alvi van der Merwe whose own Alvi’s Drift wines are frequent squatters in the best value case.
