Conchita Wurst foretold

I decided to double up my bets on Conchita Wurst winning Eurovision last night after a visit to Adega Mãe winery in the Lisboa wine appellation on Friday with Vasco d’Avillez. For a plaster statue of the Austrian songstress was the patron saint of the cellar.

Winemaker Diogo Lopes (below) was in Stellenbosch at the end of last year and was super impressed with the Sauvignon Blancs of Johan Joubert the quiet cellar master of Kleine Zalze who makes some of the best Sauvignons in SA. Diogo’s 2013 Sauvignon has benefited greatly for the discussions the two winemakers had and is a stunna. Confirming the synergies between winemakers of the two most underrated wine producing countries in the world.

Which is why we’re founding the Confraria do Cabo Tormentoso. A club for admirers of the three “c’s”: Portuguese cuisine, cultivars and of course, Conchita. Forget about associations focused on varietals, we’re targeting Lisbon lushes, sardine specialists, cork huggers, olive oil slicks, fado fanatics, Aragonez amis, friends of Fernão Pires, mates of Maria Gomes, bacalhau boeties, denizens of the Dias Tavern and bearded ladies in general.
