Phil Voget (below), Mr. Piper Heidsieck in SA, relates that the demi-sec market in Johannesburg is booming, with sales of Moët Nectar fast approaching the dry NV. And its not all ANC Youth League sales. Seems that ladies who club drink Nectar, while gents prefer whisky. Vinimark should gas up their carbonators and start making the sweet stuff.

It’s a bit like the White Club without the fake wines. But while there may be no dodgy first growths on offer, you’ll still likely spy the fake tasters who praised those wines to the sky.

Some fakirs are so slow off the mark, their blogs and websites still boast their shameful over-scoring of counterfeit bottles. This is the endgame for sighted tastings and a lesson for Standard Bank who own the Platter wine label guide. Will the public ever trust them again when the guide is bristling with fakirs and label luvvies?
