Jou ma se winery

We were following in the footsteps of Tienie Louw from Diemersdal this evening at a tasting with Diogo Lopes at Adega Mae winery in Torres Vedras. Tienie was quite taken with the single varietal Viosinho during his visit a couple of months ago while we thought the entry level Dory white blend was a revelation.

Diogo’s Dory Reserve white blend 2014 was voted best Portuguese white by 40 wine writers in Lisbon last weekend. A blend of Viosinho, Chardonnay and Viognier it has incredible concentration yet only 12.5% alcohol. 10 000 Km away from the style of white blends popular in SA.

Adega Mae brand ambassador Antonio Coelho told us the brandname Dory came from the old one man fishing boats used in the Atlantic. But we laughed as we recognized Dory as the friend of Nemo in the classic Finding Dory. The film deals with the issues around finding long lost parents and I do hope the cod we ate for dinner (bacalhau) was not a relation.
