Sydney wine scam hits businesses

A MULTIMILLION dollar wine scam operating out of Sydney has affected companies across the country, police say.

An international company registered to a western Sydney address, called World Wide Trading Company, has received millions of dollars worth of wine, but suppliers were not paid or were paid with cheques that have been dishonoured.

Police raided the company’s warehouse in Daniel Street, Wetherill Park, yesterday afternoon but it had been abandoned.

Invoices and paperwork were seized, police say.

In another warehouse in Fairfield Street, Fairfield, police found more than $5 million worth of wine, pallets and bottled water.

In a third property in Doody Street, Alexandria, more wine and pallets were found and identified by some victims.

Police are attempting to contact other companies who may have had dealings with World Wide Trading Company.
