The Five Best TV Drunks

Television characters on our favourite shows have been the drunken friends that everyone loves to laugh at, loves to party with, but don’t want to have to hold up at the end of the night.

Many of these drunks on television are the reason we tune into the show, and in some cases the main focus of it. Here are five of our favourite TV drunks.

Barney Stinson – How I Met Your Mother

Barney Stinson, NPH’s character, is a perfect TV drunk, always “suiting up” before heading out with the gang or to the occasional laser tag game. His drinks are strong and his attitude is legend, wait for it.. dary. What does Barney order when out at MacLarens? Usually scotch.

Don Draper – Mad Men

“We drink because it’s what men do.” Never had the world of misogynistic, cocktail-infused 50’s advertising been thought of as sexy until “Mad Men” and Don Draper came along. Don and the crew smoke, pour liquor and hit on secretaries all before lunch. Everyone wants a job where they can just sit around, do nothing and drink all day.

Charlie Harper – Two and a Half Men

Despite his death by subway car, Charlie Sheen’s character Charlie Harper will live on as one of our favourite TV show drunks. And what was it that Harper was drinking? Usually, Bourbon or Scotch or beer or….the list goes on!

The Gang – It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

This quirky show is about a group of friends who run Paddy’s Pub, an Irish bar in southern Philly. With stars like Danny Devito, the fact that this series has debuted multiple strange pop culture trends is in no way surprising. When they aren’t doing crack, the gang is drinking Coors Light.

Homer Simpson – The Simpsons
