Time for Ommiberg Festival Fun at Nederburg

The annual Paarl Ommiberg Round the Rock Wine Festival is fast becoming a favourite harvesting fair in the Paarl Winelands, and on March 9, celebrations take off in full gear at Nederburg. Gather family and friends for a day filled with exciting harvesting activities, live entertainment, wine tasting and delicious food at the beautiful wine farm.

An access card valid at participating wineries which includes a tasting glass and a programme can be purchased for R100. Tickets are on sale for R80 per person at Computicket. At Nederburg your ticket entitles you to a free tasting of young wines straight from the tank or barrel and an oven-fresh onion tartlet, to complement the young wines.

You can choose from the wholesome breakfast and lunch options from The Red Table restaurant’s menu or browse the various food and beverage stalls set up on the lawns in front of the Cape-Dutch manor house. The delicious treats on sale, among them, those prepared by The Red Table, include wood-fired sourdough bread bases with toppings of your choice, Prego cuisine straight off the braai as well as a selection of tortilla wraps.

Nederburg wine will also be on sale. A meal at The Red Table ensures you a R15 discount on wine purchases of R100 or more. You will receivea free branded apron with any purchase of a six-bottle case of wine from the Heritage Heroes or Manor House ranges. And if you buy 12 bottles of wine, you only pay for 11.

Live music will be played from the stoep of the manor house during lunchtime. Wine tasting takes place at the Nederburg Visitor Centre from 10:00 to 18:00. Various tastings and tours take place at the centre every hour from 10:00 to 17:00. Test your palate in a blind tasting or pair wines with artisanal cheeses. Prices range from no charge to R25 per person depending on the items included in the tasting. Only a limited number of visitors can be accommodated at the tastings.

From 14:00 to 15:00 a grape-stomping challenge will take place next to the vineyards. Only a limited number of visitors will be able to participate so put your name down early.

Added to all this is kids’ entertainment that includes a puppet show during lunch.
