Welsh vineyards hail 2013 as a great year for Welsh wine

Welsh wines are faring well in blind tastings, say their makers, though they perform less well when tasters know their origin

Wales is famous for making some of the best ales in the world at a string of breweries around the country.

But the nation famed for downing pints is now producing world class wine – and could have had its best ever year.

Ryan Davis is director at the seven acre Llanerch Vineyard, in Hensol, Vale of Glamorgan. This week, the business is hosting the first annual Welsh Vineyard Association competition.

“This year has been fantastic, it’s been a really good summer,” he said.
