100 Women 100 Wine Winners Announced

The Ultra Liquors 100 Women 100 Wines competition; South Africa’s most unique wine competition was held this Friday 1st of November at the Maslow Hotel in Johannesburg.

100 women from in and around Johannesburg gathered to sniff, swirl and sip their way through a selection of South Africa’s most popular wines. The competition, which is in its 3rd year, aims to highlight the importance of the female consumer in the South African wine industry and is proudly sponsored by Ultra Liquors.

The women were divided into groups of 10, and were given the task of nominating their favourite wines according to various drinking occasions.

“This is how people drink wine” “The wine you drink on a cold winters night will be completely different from the wine you enjoy at a braai with your friends” Says Mark Norrish, Ultra Liquors GM.

A top 10 were selected under each category with an overall winner being chosen for each occasion! After tallying up this years votes the top wines in each category are as follows:

Girls Night Out: Don Simon Sangria

Celebration: Boschendal Brut Rose

Winter Warmer: Beyerskloof Pinotage

Best Braai Wine: KWV Bonne Esperance Select Red

Ultra Special: KWV The Mentors Orchestra

Summer Sipping: DGB St Anna

Pasta Party:  Haute Cabriere Pinot Noir

Working Week: Du Toitskloof Pinotage

Romance in a glass: Amani I am 1

Long Lunch: DGB St Claire

The top 100 winning wines will all be available for sale in Ultra Liquors and will be featured in a special display promotion nation wide.
