113 Entries of Extra Virgin Olive Oil Received For 2021 SA Olive Awards

SA Olive is proud to announce that a total of 113 entries have been received from local producers of Extra Virgin Olive Oils for the 2021 SA Olive Awards.

The SA Olive Awards, now in its 16th year, was created in 2006 to honour the South African olive oil industry. The event, a premier fixture on the South African olive industry calendar, signifies and acknowledges the culmination of hard work and the strive for excellence in our local olive oil industry. The 2021 SA Olive Awards are sponsored by leading manufacturers of olive oil extraction equipment Amenduni, MORI-TEM and Pieralisi.

SA Olive Executive Manager Vittoria Jooste expressed her delight at the number of entrants, especially in light of the challenges experienced in certain growing areas this harvest season.

From the 23rd to the 27th August 2021, these medal hopefuls will be carefully tasted and evaluated by a panel composed of local olive oil judges Reni Hildenbrand, Benedetta Lami, Jackie Loubser, Marlene Loubser and Michelle Kruger. The panel will be led by Mr Aldo Mazzini, an expert professional taster and Panel Leader from Imperia, Italy.

The recipients of the SA Olive Awards will be celebrated at a gala event to be held on Thursday, the 9th of September at the beautiful Webersburg Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, Western Cape.

The highest-scoring SA Olive Awards gold medal winners will be entered into a further round of judging and the top ten oils will be selected for the prestigious Absa Top 10 Awards, taking place in October 2021.

We congratulate all entrants for their efforts and wish them the best of luck with the SA Olive Awards.
