2014 Lanzerac Merlot delivers a stellar performance at the 2016 Novare SA Terroir Wine Awards

Showing impeccable consistency in style the recently released Lanzerac Merlot 2014 was selected as the Top Merlot in the Area Winners Category for the Stellenbosch District Terroir Awards (including Stellenbosch wards), which forms part of the 2016 Novare SA Terroir Wine Awards.

Harvested in late February the grapes for this wine were sourced from four different vineyard blocks situated in the fertile Jonkershoek Valley. These blocks, aged between 8 and 20 years, are planted in mainly deep red decomposed granite soils. The ideal harvest conditions of the 2014 season, soft handling during fermentation and 12 months maturation in French oak barrels resulted in the perfect Merlot lover’s wine. Cellar Master Wynand Lategan describes the wine as showing concentrated black and red berry fruit with hints of vanilla and spicy aromas on the nose. The savoury tannins add beautiful layers of complexity, which gently support the flavours of plums, black cherries, cooked strawberries and dark chocolate on the palate. The perfect finish rounds off this superb wine in fine style.

The Lanzerac Merlot 2014 is ready to drink now, but will reach its full drinking potential within the next three to five years. Enjoy it on its own during cold winter’s evenings or create the perfect culinary marriage and serve it with savoury terrines or cured meats. It also works beautifully with melt-in-the-mouth carpaccio topped with a fruity balsamic dressing. Available directly from the Tasting Room at R130 per bottle.
