Cool Cape Town Cafes with Steaming Hot Drinks

For cold and rainy days in Cape Town, we’ve picked four of the trendiest cafes in town to head to for a cup of steaming hot coffee, chocolate or tea. Our list starts at the best coffee shop in the world, follow by three off the beaten track shops, all walking distance from each other.

Truth Coffee Roasting

According to The Telegraph, there are few cafes in the world as stunning as Truth and we couldn’t agree more. The acclaimed UK news agency named Truth Coffee Roasting as the best coffee shop out of a list of 13 unique coffee shops and roasteries in the world.

Truth Coffee Shop, District 6, Cape Town

Created by a true bearded man, this warm and cosy place, is a natural hype and hipster spot. But people don’t just flock to this steampunk-inspired artisan coffee shop in trendy Buitenkant street for the decor. The coffee is all hand-roasted in a vintage cast iron drum. There’s also a great selection of baked goods and tasty dishes made in house using organic and natural products. Don’t leave without trying the Benedict UnderbellyAlso be sure to visit The Truth Night Market that pops up on the first Wednesday of each month, where roughly twenty traders showcases their hip brands and products.

Deluxe Coffeeworks

Just up the road from Truth you will find a haven for super-serious coffee lovers. Hiding behind The Dog’s Bollocks (lol) in Rhoodehek street, Deluxe Coffeeworks is as much of a gathering place for the community as it is a classic new-wave coffee shop. You won’t find any fancy food or wifi here. That’s not their vibe. You will however find good music, interesting people and the finest espresso in town.

Lady Bonin’s Tea

It’s easy to find awesome coffee shops in Cape Town. Tea shops, however, are a bit more obscure and difficult to stumble upon. Lady Bonin is Cape Town’s first dedicated tea bar and offers an array of tea infused treats. The place is ideal for either lounging, tasting, purchasing loose-leaf, or simply taking an afternoon teatime break. With a largely organic menu and a selection of over 30 fine loose teas, Lady Bonin is definitely a Long Street gem.

Honest Chocolate

Breaking away from your regular coffee shop, this chocolate focused bar is heaven for hardcore chocoholics. Honest Chocolate is the chocolate kings of Cape Town and everything contains chocolate in one form or another. All chocolate is made using only the finest raw, unroasted organic cacao.

Apart from their artisan raw & organic chocolate, these guys make a pretty mean Hot Chocolate and the Banana Bread Bunny Chows are their signature treat.

After 5pm the courtyard is home to Cape Town’s best Gin Bar. Order the martini. It’s a winner!
