5 Famous Whisky Drinkers

Whisky is a drink that has long been adored by many different people of various backgrounds. Whether you enjoy a glass after a hard day’s work or simply sip on it while you ponder over the meaning of life. More so than almost any other alcohol, it is an iconic drink that has inspired people in a variety of fields.

In celebration of World Whisky Day we take a look at some famous people who enjoy a nice glass of whisky and the pleasures it can bring.

Mark Twain

This famous American author of legendary books such as “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” proclaimed his love for whisky by stating, “Too much of anything is bad, but too much of good whisky is barely enough.” Another of his more famous lines about whiskey’s allure is, “Whisky is for drinking; water is for fighting over.”

Lady Gaga

The Poker-face singer who arrived at the 2011 Grammys in a giant egg, likes to be high and drunk when she writes her songs. She told 60 Minutes in an interview, “I’m not gonna, like, sugar coat it for 60 Minutes that, I’m some sober human being because I’m not. I drink a lot of whisky and I smoke weed when I write.”

Winston Churchill

He was the British Prime Minister who led the United Kingdom during the Second World War and is considered one of the greatest wartime leaders of all time. When he travelled to Africa, he found the water was so unbearably awful that he had to mix it with whisky just to make it drinkable. He stated, “The water was not fit to drink. To make it palatable, we had to add whisky. By diligent effort, I learned to like it.” Whisky and water in a highball glass was his drink of choice.

Clark Gable

One of the most noted American actors of all time, was well known for his love of whiskey. He was even an early celebrity of endorser of Jim Beam whiskey in the mid-1970s. He was also famous for on set pranks where he would substitute non-alcoholic drinks with whiskey much to the surprise of his fellow actors.

Prince Harry

Renowned for his boozy parties, Prince Harry has been banned from drinking whisky shots whilst flying his Apache helicopter senior MoD officials have revealed. Top brass told the partying Royal to curb his in-flight Glenfiddich addiction on the Apache pilot course or risk being dropped from his dream of being let loose with a fully armed attack helicopter for a mass shooting spree in Afghanistan.
