A new winery opens in Johannesburg!

A winery in Joburg? You’ve read that right!

The Highveld isn’t exactly known for its wines but that may soon change with yet another winery opening its doors in the City of Gold. Gerakaris Family Wines is the second winery to opens its doors in Johannesburg.

Occupying a restored farm building in Craighall Park, this is the first Johannesburg winery of its kind open for walk-in tastings and sales, according to Womenstuff.

Gerakaris is a ‘garagiste’ winery, meaning that the wine produced is from grapes grown in another area. In this case, the grapes are grown in the Swartland region over 1200km away, and the entire winemaking process is done onsite at Gerakaris.

The Gerakaris Family Wines range currently offers two Chenin Blancs and two Syrahs (one is a 2014 vintage) for you to enjoy under the shade of a willow tree in the quaint back garden of the winery.

Find Gerakaris Family Wines at 20 Marlborough Avenue, Craighall Park, Johannesburg. The opening hours are from 12:00 to 17:00 from Wednesday to Friday; 10:00 to 15:00 on Saturday and 11:00 to 14:00 on Sunday.
