A taste of Kleine Zalze

Winelands. The word inspires visions of majestic mountains, thick with grapevines and ripe with luscious nectar. Situated in the heart of Stellenbosch you will find Kleine Zalze. A unique destination that offers the ultimate getaway, along with award winning wines and superb dining.

The Kleine Zalze wine collection boasts a wide variety of renowned wines, including the Family Range, Vineyard Selection and Zalze Range. We tried out three of their latest releases and this is what we thought:

Light, crisp and fruit driven. It’s an easy drinking Chenin Blanc, perfect for a lazy afternoon in the sun. This barrel-fermented wine offers a creamy mouth feel with an elegant finish. We enjoyed every sip. Match this wine with something fishy.

Nothing can be more frustration than opening a Chadonnay that’s overly oaked. Thankfully, most winemakers have moved away from those big, lush, buttery whites and are leaning toward newer, leaner and fresher style Chadonnays. This wine is a classic example of the latter. Citrusy and vivid, with a light prickle to its texture. It a great wine to enjoy with a creamy and decadent Italian dish.

A bit ruff around the edges with heavy abrasive tannins. Fruitcake aromas on the nose. Will give it another year or two in the bottle to allow the wine to settle. We’ll pair this wine with whiskey-mustard meatballs.

All three wines are available for tasting at the Kleine Zalze tasting room. Why not give them a swirl and stay for lunch? Terroir is currently running a great special. One not to be missed.
