Allesverloren, the oldest Swartland wine estate, and renowned for its superlative red and port-style wines, has announced the release of three newcomers made from its vineyards in the Riebeek Valley.
The Trés Vermelhos 2012 and Allesverloren Red Muscadel 2013 are completely new additions to the farm’s portfolio, while it’s the first time the Tinta Barocca Rosé 2013 is available in South Africa.
“This is an exciting time for us,” says Allesverloren fifth generation winemaker Danie Malan. “The Trés Vermelhos and Red Muscadel represent new territory for us and we’re sure that their quality will allow them to speak for themselves.”
Allesverloren Trés Vermelhos 2012, Portuguese for Three Reds, is the first blend in the Allesverloren range of cultivars originally from the Douro region in Portugal. An estate wine, it comprises Souzao, Tinta Barocca and Touriga Naçional.
Its genesis lay in Malan’s recent exploration of Douro’s dryer areas, where winemakers have been experimenting with blends of these varietals. “I tasted some truly fascinating wines and decided to try an Allesverloren interpretation. The cellar has produced an exceptional wine.”

Excellence is evident too in Allesverloren Red Muscadel 2013. Although the estate has farmed muscat grapes for customers and use in its own blends for a decade, it only produced this fortified wine for the first time last year. The wine immediately garnered attention by winning the title of SA Champion Muscadel at the South African Young Wine Show.
• Allesverloren Trés Vermelhos 2012
The grapes were harvested from three vineyard blocks based on aspect, gradient and age. Only the finest grapes were selected from each and they were vinified separately. The wine was matured in French oak barrels for 12 to 14 months.
• Allesverloren Red Muscadel 2013
The grapes for this wine come from a one hectare block of vines about 250m above sea level. Ideal climate conditions and healthy soils produced outstanding fruit, which was vinified and bottled. The Muscadel captures the flavours and feelings of a hot summers’ day; it is an elegant, sweet wine with excellent balance and a lovely freshness.
• Allesverloren Tinta Barocca Rosé 2013
An ideal summer drink, the pomegranate pink Tinta Barocca Rosé 2013 was born from vineyards in harsh mountain soils and which thrived in sunlight and cool breezes. This is its second vintage – when it launched it was only available overseas. Its arrival represented a break from tradition for Allesverloren, traditionally a producer of dry red wines. The Rosé is fresh and fruity, flush with flavours of strawberries and raspberries.
Allesverloren is situated on the south-eastern slopes of the Kasteelberg near Riebeek West. It has been producing wine since the early 19th century and has remained in the Malan family for five generations. Winemaker Danie Malan and his late father, Fanie, were among the wine pioneers of the Swartland, ably demonstrating the outstanding wine growing potential of what was once considered the breadbasket of the Cape.
The farm was acquired by Daniel Francois Malan in 1872 Today, the Allesverloren label is recognised as a stamp of quality while a number of its wines are regarded as icons of South African wine. It is part of the Cape Legends fine wine portfolio, an extensive collection of superlative quality, award-winning wines from several boutique estates situated in and around the Cape Winelands.
