The Cape Winemakers Guild Protégé Programme, a mentorship scheme for aspiring young winemakers and viticulturists, has received a generous donation from Amorim Cork to fund business management courses this year.

Amorim Cork who donates 0,5% of all purchases made by Cape Winemakers Guild members back to the Guild, raised R81 000 towards the Protégé Programme last year. This ongoing initiative by Amorim Cork funds the enrolment of CWG Protégés in the Management Development Programme of the Stellenbosch University Business School.

“As producers of the world’s finest natural cork stoppers, Amorim deems it an honour to be associated with the Cape Winemakers Guild which remains at the forefront of quality wine making in South Africa,” says Joaquim Sá, Managing Director of Amorim Cork South Africa.

“With its commitment to wine excellence and innovation, the Cape Winemakers Guild is leading the way in creating opportunities that will ultimately lead to the transformation of the wine industry. The Protégé Programme deserves the support of not only the Guild and its sponsors – of which Amorim is a part – but also from all those wishing to see a wine industry globally accepted as being one of true greatness. In this the Cape Winemakers Guild can be assured of our continual support,” adds Sá.

Established in 2006 with the long term goal of developing and empowering talented young Protégés in the South African wine industry, the Cape Winemakers Guild Protégé Programme gives oenology and viticulture graduates the rare opportunity of working side by side and learning from members of the Guild, all acclaimed masters of their craft.

Under their mentorship, Protégés are cultivated, nurtured and empowered to become winemakers and viticulturists of excellence.
