Anthonij Rupert Wyne MCC’s excel in Amorim Cap Classique Challenge

According to Amorim Cork South Africa MD, Joaquim Sá, Cap Classique is in a better and sparklier state than ever. This statement was made at the announcement of the 2019 Amorim Cork MCC Challenge winners, which were revealed on 12 September.

Included in the winning line up were the L’Ormarins Blanc de Blancs 2013 (Double Gold) and L’Omarins Brut Rosé NV (Gold). The aim of the competition is to showcase the quality of South African Cap Classique, and with the festive season around the corner now is the perfect opportunity to stock up on these shining examples.

From the outset the L’Ormarins Blanc de Blancs 2013 radiates elegance and sophistication in its striking packaging. Grapes were sourced from vineyards on the estate’s Altima property in the Elandskloof region, which is renowned for its high altitudes – perfect for producing exceptional Cap Classique made from 100% Chardonnay. Fermentation in the bottle takes a leisurely four years adding maximum complexity and creaminess. The lively fine mousse makes way for an MCC bursting with flavours of zesty lemons, intermingled with a hint of oyster shell. The flavour profile continues with aromas of sour dough bread yeastiness, limestone and the slightest hint of caramel. The L’Ormarins Blanc de Blancs is best enjoyed, chilled, on its own or paired fresh oysters, flash fried Prawns with orange and Pernod, a delicious Nectarine Frangipane Tart or even a classic Duck a L’Orange. A limited release MCC, which is available from top retailers at R220 per bottle.

With the dominant varietal being Pinot Noir which contributes to its delicate salmon colour, the L’Ormarins Brut Rosé NV is guaranteed to be a crowd pleasing delight.  A hand-crafted wine which is best described as delivering a constant stream of fine bubbles with delicious aromas of raspberry and strawberries on the nose, and a slight hint of peppery spice nuances. With excellent structure, length and a lingering aftertaste, this is a wine for all seasons. As the perfect ‘any time’ drink, the L‘Ormarins Brut Rosé NV is best enjoyed chilled, on its own, or as the ideal partner to a fresh Summer salad of Goats cheese with a raspberry vinaigrette. Alternatively end a perfect dinner with a glass of the Brut Rosé served with a homemade Strawberry tart. Available directly from the Tasting Room at R130 per bottle, or select specialist wine stores nationwide.
