Antiques Roadshow Expert Sips 180 Year-old Human Urine, Declares It Port

In a 2016 episode of Antiques Roadshow, UK glass expert Andy McConnell plunged a syringe through the cork of a bottle that a Cornwall man has discovered purposely buried under the threshold of his house, which dated back to 1840.

McConnell carefully sipped the brown and rusty liquid on camera and was visibly repulsed, much to the delight of dozens of onlookers.

He thought it might be 180 year-old port wine, but now – three years later – it’s been found that in actual fact the bottle contained brass pins and human hair submerged in human urine — a superstitious brew of the time meant to ward off witches, bad luck and curses.
