Blaauwklippen marks its 333 birthday with the release of South Africa`s only Zinfandel based MCC

In many respects Napa Valley produces some of the world’s finest Zinfandel wines but no estate is so innovative with this cultivar like Blaauwklippen, situated in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

The newly released Diva Zinfandel MCC 2013 is not only the first Zinfandel Methode Cap Classique wine in South Africa, it’s also the 10th Zinfandel-inspired product in the Blaauwklippen wine portfolio. According to Rolf Zeitvogel, the Cellar Master and MD of Blaauwklippen, there are only two other sparkling wines in the world made from 100% Zinfandel grapes and you will find them in California.

4500 bottles of the 2013 vintage were released in celebration of the farm’s 333 year history. The wine was kept on the lees for 8 months, before the second fermentation in the bottle, spending 13 months in the bottle after disgorgement. The name “Diva” pays tribute to the temperamental yet rewarding nature of the Zinfandel grape.

This carefully crafted sparkling wine offers refreshing aromas and flavours that complement a wide variety of cuisine and occasions. The palate begins with a nice, classic mousse mouthfeel. The citrus and crisp apple flavours bring a refreshing acidity to the wine and carries everything into a long, delicious finish.

The 2013 Diva Zinfandel MCC will be available from mid-April at a cellar-door price of R135 .
