Boplaas wines on a wave of success

Continuing its record of consistent quality in the production of port and other Portuguese style wines, Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve Port 2012 was rated as the best port at the Wine-of- the-Month Club tasting, while also excelling at the recent Cappa Port & Wine Challenge.

This wine also received a coveted five star rating in the Platter’s 2016 and the 2013 vintage of the Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve was placed third by the Wine-of- the-Month Club. It also achieved a Top 100 rating in the recent National Wine Challenge where it was judged Best SA Port.

The popular Boplaas Chocolate Port was given a fourth place in the Club’s tasting.

At the Cappa Challenge 2016, Boplaas garnered the most wines in the top 20 this year, namely Boplaas Ring of Rocks 2013, Boplaas Tinta Barocca Woolworths 2015, Boplaas Portuguese Connection Woolworths 2014 and Boplaas Tinta Barocca 2015.

The Cape Tawny 1995 received a gold medal and was runner-up in its class.

The Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve Port 2005 won a gold in the Museum Class, proving the excellent ageing potential of the Boplaas ports.

Boplaas Wines last year won this competition overall with the Boplaas Cape Tawny Port Bin 1880.

The Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve 2012 was blended from 80% Touriga Nacional, 18 % Tinta Barocca and 2% Souzão, matured for two years in large old French oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. An inky, purple dark-coloured wine with plush black hedgerow fruit, extraordinary complexity and maturation potential.

The Boplaas Vintage Reserve 2013 comprises 88% Touriga Nacional, 10% Tinta Barocca and 2% Souzão. After 12 months in Portuguese oak barrels, the wine shows dense dark fruit, with cassis and chocolate nuances on the palate, supported by hints of violet and liquorice. The complexity will develop yet further with maturation of more than 30 years.
